REMEMBERING GUITARIST DEREK JULIAN & MORE

Remembering iconic music personalities (guitarist Derek Julian) and playing out tributes and tunes from the Elvis Lobo-Cliffy-Joe trio, and then Muus Mushroom 'banger techno set' .. the blah blah is even lesser ;)

True, Derek Julian, was definitely one of the most craziest guitarists from the Mumbai Music scene that moved on, but not before inspiring many with the music he contributed with. Never really hurts to value contributions of iconic and under-rated people from the music business. He was the type of person, who could influence many new comers in the music business, much to the pleasure of us all, so that we could hear music with lets say, 'soul' or rather something that touches us. A moment for instance, from the funeral of late Michael that was also telecasted live for many world viewers, was when a lot of vocals had sung, and almost cried, tearing the audience down to an emotional choking point, as was felt by yours truly when watching this live. Then came John Mayer with just a simple blues guitar solo accompanied by the band, that somehow helped release the choked emotion. A wonder what just seven notes can do; it is somehow what it is to whomsoever who gets touched.

Bringing on layers of guitar track by track, as they get set up in software systems in a studio, this track was also a first, created and self-composed by Elvis Lobo, for a regional film from Goa, in the south west of India. Guitar Talk, being this first of its kind, ambient guitar track recorded, just like the legacy of Derek Julian, where the essence of a musician is best seen live, live sessions of music from guitarists and music performers from all over the world, are now also being recorded and uploaded on youtube. Far from watching live shows of popular artists like MJ or Madonna, here on this show, was a chance to tune in to something like this.

So starting with guitar talk, to a special tribute song dedicated to Derek Julian, the show went on to link us with a live performance of Cliffy on drums, Joe Ferrao on bass and Elvis Lobo on guitar, at a location near the sea. With conversations picked up by the microphones from the background, possibly giving us a taste of conversations at such live events by the sea, playing happily to conversations with smiles of course are the musicians (even amongst barking dogs). Sooner or later, the music engulfs the conversations totally to hear the cheer in the air literally. Incidentally, on youtube, this very video showcases a plethora of colours emenating from the music artists in the frame of the camera capturiing this gig. Played out at a festival of arts in Goa last year, the easy listenning is simply timeless. An open mind is all you need, and then every thing is possible, some have observed even before our existence.

The next mix of hard tech and psychadelic twitches in a groovy dance music set came from Muus Mushroom, with information about this artist of a kind, playing at a place near you (in Tübingen) this November 1, again in a first of its kind gathering called, CAN DO 1.0. Documenting this for record sake and some tidbits about the last annual party at a student house having a compulsory half hor long break due to a 'central' fire alarm going off (or rather loudly on), here is where we can insist on having given a tip for the 'aufpassen moment' - security evacuation during such a fire emergency, if ever will happen. Here, the protocol is to go out of the building and stay in the foyer space, usually demarcated for every building, which is predominantly outside. After smiling at the police, fire engines and passer-by folk at around 1 am, the gathering began again after the fire department people did their routine fire security check before everybody went in and partied the remaining night long.

Much then happenned from Muus Mushroom's set all the way till the end of this show, with repetition of the radio station name, title of the show (Newcomernews) so that anyone tuning in knows where we are and what we are up to listenning, the asssumption being all listenners have an open mind. Getting the feeling that certain things will never be in our control, like the weather for instance, just like that, simply listenning to the dj music set is the theme hereafter, in the show as well :)
