Tidbits about current events in this lovely city of Tübingen continue on the show, ranging from the Annual October Arabic Film Festival and After Party in Tübingen to dabke workshops to the odd Nineties party to shake a leg. Music finds itself a lot more space in this two hour narrative from whomsoever hosts the 'Newcomer News' show every wednesday. Designed to be about everything new, specially people, given that Wueste Welle has been quite a people's radio station, there are times with and without guests. Thats exactly when the music gets to take over the blah blah we can do less with.
Billy Joel's participant observation perspective giving the description of the piano man came right after Sabrina Carpenter's Manchild, which was a request two shows ago, by the then moderator of this show. An introduction to certain covers from bands playing during the genre popularised from MTV Unplugged showcases this one band called 'The Corrs'. While more can be found on the internet with a select and right click, R.E.M.'s Everybody Hurts, Jimmy's Little Wing and some more got covered by this band called The Corrs.
A topic we shyed away from this time, which can become a topic anytime however, is the one about lyrics of songs as just impulsive reactions to slices of life lets say. A sub sub genre emenating from popular songs like 'Don't cha (wish your girlfriend was smart/rich/sexy like me)' by the pussy cat dolls. Straying away from expressions and dealing with machismo attitudes like in Michael Jackson's Bad, this is a direct take on situations like couples partying ways, called break-ups in a fast paced world, with speed dating apps. A tried and tested period in everyone's life, just like the show last month bringing out the music choices of the age between 8 and 12 years, how we see a song, is something to think about. At most, you may look for more poetic lyrics since listening to casual situational lyrics may come of age, lets say.
The song 'Little Wing' for instance, is one where never even once is there a mention of 'Little Wing' in the lyrics of this song. So ignoring lyrics while listening to the music anyways, sems to hold precedence in minds these days. What started in childhood due to a lack of vocubulary, now comes in use when we wish to ignore the same.
Going to Enya voices singing 'Only Time' giving the feel of a background of movies like Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter expressing a type of grandiose just with voices simply, er ... recorded with accompanying music to fit pictures in our minds. Then Indian classical Sitar from Niladri Kumar, fusing in the Zitar, the electronic sitar, begins to tickle the mind with sounds bringing pictures of the Indian subcontinent to our minds. Moving on from the Western classical world of music to classical music from the Indian side, to then the Arabic end of the Universe. The Oud being an instrument that can be identified, from the Persian side, we finally found the Oud played from Tübingen and the song or rather track made in Tübingen by a collabortion of Pablo Ritmo and C-Goa. Made to manifest acts of togetherness like making music, the track is called, 'Looping for Tension'.
The story of Niladri Kumar as dramatised by me in this show for pure comic relief, was indeed true, just like he personally mentioned to me in an interview sometime around 2010, where there was, like every generation would have, a generation gap thing with elder generations, that finally came together, like always does. The idea of MTV music hits of the nineties and rock music from those times for a traditional mind (from then) can have always been a direct pleasure, although in many instances it took time to heal out or rather hear out. For every instance of new, things seemingly have their pace. How things are heard out can also mean different for different ages. As was proved in the show from last month with another fresher mind from among us revealing how songs like 'I want to f+++ u all night' come across. WE can keep arguing about differences between listen in and tune in, although this can now be put safely behind us, now that the show is also behind us. Till next week.
