GOA & THE WORLD COME TOGETHER AGAINST COAL

Solidarity to the anti-coal movement in tiny Goa from India to support the transition of energies to more sustainable recources was mentioned as importantly as Greta Thunberg's call or that of more unknown organisations from the world over. And a lot of music in the meanwhile and the world comes together for this cause.

The anti coal movement continues all over the world, this time from the tiny state of Goa, where resistance led to more than 10,000 people gathering to confirm their solidarity with the stance of the world against coal. A national project endorsed by the state and central governance through clandestinely created laws now enables by one of the world's richest men, an Indian himself, to have coal transportation over biodiversity and environmental degradation. More than one hundred thousand species, many of whom have not even been discovered by mankind yet, may cease to exist totally, due to permissions being given for coal transportation through a UNESCO endorsed Biodiversity hotspot and a tiger reserve, among other eco-sensitive wild life areas, demarked, but not yet protected. Then again, there is land beloging to the people of Goa, that also looses itself to coal, apart from the species of plants and animals. Creating this social and environmental havoc, for the transportation of coal solely and no other purpose got thousands out in protest with a worldly solidarity, right from organisations like Fridays for future, Gretha Thunberg and many not-so-popular ones around the world, to more unkown regional bodies from Goa so far. In fact, few years ago, Goa's call to resistance against coal, had reached this international organisation and many more who care to be interested in joining hands against the same transitions to put coal behind us for the future. And there were videos made about this from Tübingen and other parts of Germany and the world at large as well backing this world cause. Online solidarity and joining this movement is something that may help the world and yourself - helping transitions from coal to more sustainable energy recources.

What must be known here, is that like the Amazon rainforests bring rain to other parts of this globe, so do rainforests from other parts of the world, and one of these biodiversity hopspots of this world happens to be in Goa, and now under serious threat due to coal. The math for everyone here is quite clear, and any other direction for sake of economics needs to be transitioned sustainably towards reduction of coal energy as well. But when permissions come from State and central authorities, only public solidarity can put things in place. The anti-coal movement is a world wide movement and hence continues.

China, Indonesia, Russia, Austrailia, Kazakhistan, South Africa, Poland from EU and India's plans of transition from coal to other energy recources is only of vital importance to our very existence. Although transitions from old bad habits have always been a situation, the good part here, is there is the whole world that has proved beyond doubt the possibility of a transition OUT of coal, and it all starts with movement. Call it a dance move, from a physical space, to writing something that moves readers or creating a contribution to a butterfly effect for this transition to coming openly out on the streets to create the necessary impact for resistance to coal - we are all involved in this. To say that this energy recource is the backbone of the economy, is simply a situation for us all as this cannot bring us closer to the truth. Truth is that the Supreme Court of India has clarified that if ever there is a dispute between development and the environment, the environment is, and always be the first priority between the two. The truth is in what we bargain for, and in cancer reports and coal lungs for the people of villages where coal is allowed to be accumulated at shipyards in places like Goa, which is the damage to our health, that should be direct reason enough among other disasters in the making, to curb and control such activities. To think of the tobacco industry and how pictures have started on cigarrette packets as the phase by phase plan to help reverse the addiction and damage to public population, is quite worth it, to get a more realistic view, although solutions can literally come in tomorrow, with the amounts of money involved. The political will somehow always lacks and lags behind. So a puch in the right direction is needed. The attachment to millions and wealth, and our special material things is something limited, in comparison to the timelessness of nature. To feel the solidarity, music from Goa, from the pop music world in Goa, got played, to be shazammed, and followed if the tickle in your ear from these was lingering enough for the music memory. Maybe somewhere, you hear these tunes again and have this audio deja vous moment of sorts. Anyways, previous conversations on this very show have confirmed the likeability to music, irrespective of language or lyric. Amen to that (or check out previous articles from this show since last two months).

Going further into the show, was a visitor at the radio station. Again, as we walked out of the studio towards 'abend brot' at our respective spaces,  the decorum of casual conversation, no matter where had already gone beyond this inhibition of entering a radio studio for the first time. Hearing oneself in the recorded version of this show must be quite a thrill as well. However conversations streamed right out of 'Cookiewalla' a place in Goa, where apparently there is live music most of the times, like many other places in Goa. A visitor also to the state of Goa, apart from out radio station, she has been a performer of arts and was ever eager to give us few glimpses of her experiences from her travels. What did strike us in conversation however, is the fact that everything can only get expensive, so there is no point even mentioning the obvious, in this context - it simply brings no joy. Its a well accepted pattern of our economic existences. More debate on this can be welcome if it somehow gets us in a musical spirit of things, like this radio sendung provided. Remarking specfically about live music in India with stories of holding the violin the 'Indian' way, psy trance at Varanasi, techno evenings at these holy places, dark psy trance music played traditionally in the background whenever burning the evil effigy of the demon at the Festival of Lights to depict the symbolic victory of good over evil, et al. Imagine the electronic tradition here, if no one has still heard or been at the Trance Ganesha in Mumbai, which was an annual public procession of Lord Ganesha with psy trance music playing in the background, discontinued in recent years, but yet to happen again. To enrich the experience from India with a growing electronic music influence, our visitor brought her stories to the table from where this radio show goes to the world.

AS things went on with jam sessions from Hill Top, by Life Enjoyer's Club - yes an artist with a name like that, and Elvis Lobo. Neville, is one of the founders of Life Enjoyer's Club and plays his heart out as a dj-cum-transitioning-music producer; still enjoying the process of life and all within it, as the artist's name suggests. Being able to stay near the sea (beach included) serves his purpose well enough, just like the rest of us every once in a while. Enabled with a charm of music performances, there is more to expect from this artist - especially with a name like that. A Doors 'Riders on the storm' cover supported by live just about 25 minutes before the end of the show is something that u may have never ever heard before.

Brewing the music brew, from regional Goa pop music, to psy trance whch was born and made extremely popular in this very state, the parties are the sole reason for Goa gettings its tourity image and going onwards from there on. The layers of sound from the psy trance genre got covered Goan psy artist Gidra, as well as Arjuna, a child from the generation of the beginning of Goa, now a music producer. From another nationality, but born and bred in Goa, their collaboration track called Goan Routing came befor the Hill Top Goa live and electronic set with live guitars (one guitarist with his sound effects processor to generate different tones and sounds from it) backed by the electronics from the console. Conversations lingered on just like they do from time to time, bringing in laughter and smiles for sure :)

Conversations that spoke of world issues with coal and how people in their own capacity from their own sweet places can help this transition into something better. A place where Goan protestors were also rounded up by the police for creating a rally for Gaza residents, and hence living with international dynamics and dimensions, the music, like the call to change and better transitions for future also continues with life and what we need to omit and commit to from it.
